Kyu Sang Lee's artistic practice examines discord and cultural interaction, aiming for unity through universal elements and emphasising the role of time. The use of chroma key green symbolises his interactions with varied cultures and search for belonging amidst continuous change. It probes the connection between technology and aesthetics, highlighting the expanding divide between human elements and technology while simultaneously acting as a bridge for technological and human progress.

Lee's works blurs the lines between reality and unreality, representing life's constant state of flux and inviting exploration into the spaces between the real and unreal. His emphasis on time underlines its role as a unifying force in his art, transcending limitations and highlighting universal connection beyond spatial and cultural boundaries. Lee's art delves into the emergence of new systems or worlds, highlighting intersections within conflict and advocating a transcending, universal characteristic, seamlessly blending themes of time, technology, and cultural interaction.

Kyu Sang Lee's oeuvre is characterised by image works that often convey narratives rather than mere scenes. His depictions of gestures and marks transcend conventional notions of reality, prompting reflections on the fluid boundaries between human and non-human entities. Lee's works critique and reinterpret the deeply ingrained cultural ideas that have shaped human existence throughout history. In his art, generational clashes occur, leading to mutations or amalgamations that form new states, thereby exploring the interconnectedness of all beings and their shared, complex experiences.

Lee's approach is a reflection of his personal history. His East Asian heritage, coupled with his upbringing in Africa and education in Europe, has enriched his vision, allowing him to transcend binary thinking and articulate a nuanced, interwoven understanding of the world.

A distinctive feature of Lee’s work is his extensive use of bright green, often referred to as ‘chroma-key green’ (or ultramarine blue). This colour symbolises his experience of oscillating between blending in and standing out. Initially, the green appears incongruous with the rest of the image. However, its ultimate purpose is to seamlessly integrate elements, making them appear as part of the original composition. The use of chroma-key green also highlights the binary relationship between technology and aesthetics, emphasising the interplay between human and non-human elements.

Lee's images capture moments of rupture and turbulent change with humour, providing a sanctuary for the blurred lines between reality and non-binary concepts. His prsctice invites flux and transformations, blending the real and unreal and transcending the limitations of tangible reality. He navigate a complex terrain where traditional boundaries dissolve, offering a space for contemplation and re-evaluation of existence in a world that is both real and imagined, stable and in flux.
