The exhibition is an artistic reflection on the coexistence of different cultures in the context of globalization, centered on the symbol of the traditional Chinese “HOTPOT”. The theoretical approach is based on the Creolization theory of sociologist Stuart Hall. This theory stipulates that encounters between cultures lead to a process of mixing and exchange from which new cultural forms emerge. These processes of interaction, exchange and permeation are described as inherently dynamic, going beyond a simple merging of different cultures. They are thus rarely smooth sailing, but rather full of contradictions and conflicts. Hall emphasizes that creolization involves not only the exploring and expanding of culture, but also the challenging and restructuring of cultural identity. Art researcher Larissa Buchholz explains the role Hall assigns to culture in globalized modernity as follows: “Culture has become both an instrument of power and a medium of representation – the ‘movement of power is inseparable from the movement of images, the movement of information.’” In this context, our art exhibition functions on two levels, on the one hand showing a representation of cultural values and on the other hand providing a platform to reflect on power structures in unequal resource distribution and global negotiations. - LL Interspace

Die Ausstellung verwendet das Sinnbild das traditionellen chinesischen „HOTPOT“, um die Koexistenz unterschiedlicher Kulturen im Kontext der Globalisierung künstlerisch zu beleuchten. Der theoretische Ansatz basiert auf der Creolization-Theorie des Soziologen Stuart Hall. Gemäß seiner Theorie führen Begegnungen zwischen Kulturen zu einem Prozess der Vermischung und des Austauschs, aus dem sich neue kulturelle Formen herausbilden. Entscheidend ist in diesem Modell die inhärente Dynamik, die die Interaktion, den Austausch und das Durchdringen verschiedener Kulturen charakterisiert und die über ein einfaches Zusammenfügen verschiedener Kulturen hinausgeht. Dabei handelt es sich keineswegs um einen reibungslosen Vorgang, sondern vielmehr um einen Prozess voller Widersprüche und Konflikte. Hall betont, dass die Creolization nicht nur eine Erkundung und Erweiterung der Kultur, sondern auch eine Herausforderung und Umstrukturierung der kulturellen Identität beinhaltet. Die Kunstforscherin Larissa Buchholz erklärt die Rolle, die Hall der Kultur in der globalisierten Moderne zuweist, mit folgenden Worten: „Kultur [ist] gleichermaßen zu einem Instrument der Macht wie zu einem Medium der Repräsentation aufgestiegen – die ‚Bewegung der Macht ist untrennbar von der Bewegung von Bildern, der Bewegung von Informationen‘.“ In diesem Zusammenhang erfüllt unsere Kunstausstellung eine doppelte Funktion, indem sie einerseits kulturelle Werte abbildet und andererseits eine Plattform bietet, um über Machtstrukturen in ungleicher Ressourcenverteilung und in globalen Verhandlungen zu reflektieren. zwangsläufig – zum Nachdenken an. - LL Interspace
