The title "Shallow Time” references modern philosophical concept Deep Time, which was developed by geologist James Hutton in 18th Century. While the concept of Deep Time depicts undeterminable length of time which a rock has endured, Shallow Time portrays mechanical one. Mechanical time refers to cyclic, standardised time in the modern day which began in the time of industrialisation of the West. Under the guise of maintaining a reasonable daily life, time of a modern is minutely controlled. The standardised and controlled time equivocates one’s identity and separates from geographical context. And Nike boxes exists as an allegory to time that is standardised, repeated and regulated.
